A marketing expert in Australia believes that shoppers and consumers are different. John McLoughlin, of Real World Marketing, made this point when addressing a Private Label Manufacturers' Association seminar.
He said that a mother buying drinks for her child is a shopper, while the consumer is the child who drinks the product.
McLoughlin said that the shopper makes over 70% of his or her purchase decisions at the point of purchase. He believes that a retailer can make both private label brands and brand name products big sellers, by focusing on quality and the right price.
